Children's Book Fiesta!

On the occasion of the International Children’s Book Day on 2nd April, it was loaded with fantastic line-up book throughout the month with international puppet shows, celebrity reading, events, book promotions, workshops, free books & more.

Internationally renowned children's illustrator Rafael López attended the Children's Book Fiesta, a combined book reading and children's drawing workshop held at The Shelter - Maraya. The event was organised by the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) as part of its 'Carnival of Children's Literature' for International Children's Book Day (ICBD), were we were able to take part.

The day's events kicked off at 10am with a 30-minute reading from Pat Mora's Book Fiesta!, for which López's illustrations the 2010 Pura Belpré Illustrator Award, given by the American Library Association. We were not able to catch that part as by the time we reached it was already past 10:30 :(.

Pat Mora's Book Fiesta! was bilingual in English and Arabic.

After the reading came the 90-minute drawing workshop, run by López.

The children were served with delicious snacks in between.

The event was followed by a range of fun activities for children, including a Dubai drums session at The Shelter.

And the session ended on the Knowledge without Borders Bus where free books were distributed.

We returned with handful of beautiful books to add to my little princess tiny library.
