Israa and Mi'raaj

Today is 27th of Rajab (seventh month of the Islamic Calendar). This month is also considered as one of the sacred months in which battles were prohibited in the days of the holy prophet.

The great event of Israa (night journey from Makkah to Jerusalem) and Mira'aj (the ascension of the prophet to the heavens). It is one of the remarkable events in the life of our beloved. In this miraculous night journey Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessing upon him) was given the gift of the 5 daily prayers direclty from Allahu Subhanahu wa Taala.

How many of us today, in our busy life tend to remember these great days and events from our holy nabi's life? Each day passes us just like the other, rarely thinking about the significance of these days in our life. Insha Allah, I hope to take on with my little princess on short journey describing the importance of these dates and its significance. Its just not teaching her, but in same time refreshing my memory too.

This is what we did, we read about Israa and the Mi'raaj from the book When The Moon Split, a book about the biography of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessing upon him), published by Darussalam. A beautiful and illustrated book to read with the children. Although half way through my little princess started wandering here and there, but she got to know what happened on this day, in the prophets history, الحمدللّه. No activities were included, but a question and answering session is all we did.

I leave you with this dua'a, which the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessing upon him) used to recite when he sighted the moon of Rajab.

"اللهم بارك لنا في رجب و شعبان و بلّغنا رمضان"
O Allah make the months of Rajab and Sha'baan blessed for us, and let us reach the month of Ramdan (so that we may benfit from its merits and blessings).
